3 tips for staying on track while on vacation

Try implementing this tips on your next trip and feel good about your choices! Being able to relax and live a little is what vacation is all about…I get it!  Having a great care-free vacation while staying on track isn’t as boring or impossible as it sounds.

Let’s look at how you can do this…

STAY HYDRATED

The first thing to slip with your nutrition is usually hydration. Are you drinking enough water? I definitely like to enjoy my coffee and wine and other fancy drinks on vacation but I have learned that drinking water is ABSOLUTLEY CRUCIAL and if you aren’t hydrating you will feel bad, sans question.

So, you’ve heard it before but start with water before the coffee, Caesar, or whatever else you might enjoy:) Continue to drink one glass of water for every drink you have and you will be set (unless that number of drink gets into the double digits!).

EAT YOUR FRUITS AND VEGGIES

Next, lets talk about healthy eating while away from your perfectly stocked pantry and fridge. It’s so hard when you feel like you’re not in control of your food choices but guess what? You are. Make it a priority to get some fruit and veggies into each meal and avoid the chip bowl (or least don’t eat the entire chip bowl). Also remember that if you’re lounging around the pool or beach all day instead of running around doing your usual routine, you need less calories, NOT MORE, so only eat when your truly hungry and don’t just graze on snacks all day.

EXERCISE

And lastly, exercise…. I can feel your eyes rolling as you read this. But trust me, a little can go a long way. And from my experience, get it done early in the day or the motivation goes out the door. Do your own little HIIT workout, swim laps in the lake/pool/ocean, go for a power walk with a few sprints to get the heart rate up… it’s honestly not THAT hard and will set you on a good path for the day!

Remember, you always have a choice and if you choose to make your health and well being a priority while on vacation, you will find that coming home and getting back into your regular routine isn’t so bad.
