3rd Annual Sugar Free Challenge Starts Feb 1st– Who’s joining us?
This will be my third year leading a group of women through a 30 day sugar free challenge. I am excited and anxious all at the same time. Why anxious? Well, first of all, it’s actually extremely hard to go sugar free, even for someone who seemingly eats very little sugar to go a full month without the stuff. It’s everywhere and in everything we eat. From the regular almond milk, the Naam miso gravy, our peanut butter and especially in my beloved Love Crunch granola.
On the flip-side, I’m beyond excited because I know how life changing this month can be. I love hearing from my clients that this challenge drastically changed their food habits for life (for the better lol). It’s not only good to curb your cravings for sugar, but it really brings a whole new awareness to how we fuel our bodies!
WHAT IS SUGAR FREE?
SO most common questions is… what does sugar free mean? It’s actually a great question as there seems to be different answers depending on who you ask. In my sugar free challenge we eliminate all added sugar (including naturally occurring ones like maple syrup) and limit but completely restrict fruit. This means we need to be save consumers and read labels, make most of our own sauces and dressings, meal plan, and stick to low sugar fruits like berries, citrus, papaya and even kiwis.
The focus of the month is on fresh vegetables, healthy fats, healthy proteins, and whole grain complex carbohydrates.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR SUGAR FREE
Start by having a mindful day of what you eat. Notice how many times a day you do eat something with added sugar or how many times you add honey or maple syrup to something. You might be surprised at how quickly it adds up.
Next try to avoid the obvious offenders like candy, store bought baked goods, adding brown sugar to your oatmeal, or having a pop or store bought juice.
I will guide you from there!
HOW TO BREAK YOUR SUGAR HABIT AND SAY GOODBYE TO CRAVINGS
I believe these longer sugar free challenges are so beneficial and really work to make lasting change is because we alter the bacteria in our gut microbiome when we restrict sugar for long enough. We actually starve off the bad guys who feed off sugar and then replace them with good gut bacteria, the kind that fights inflammation and brings the body back to a state of health.
When our gut is healthy and balanced, so are our cravings and moods!
GUT HEALTH 101
One thing I have learned to be true for everyone is a healthy gut means a healthy life. Our gut health is suffering due to the high amounts of sugar, toxins we get exposed to on a daily basis (pesticides, breathing, drinking, cleaners, paints, plastics etc) and of course… stress. Our western diet looks a lot different than it did 100 years ago thanks to processed foods and refined (nutrient-void) foods.
The end result is a population with bad gut health. Going sugar free is one of the best way to improve your gut health and restore balance to your gut micro biome. I will go into a lot more details and provide all the support you need throughout the challenge.
WHY DOING IT WITH A GROUP IS KEY TO SUCCESSFULLY MAKING IT THROUGH.
Have you ever tried to start something new and different on your own only to fall off track within the first week? Yup, me too, a hundred times. That is why going sugar free with a group is so helpful, you not only feel supported by the other women, but you also feel accountable. You get to see that other women will struggle, make mistakes and have questions, just like you. There will be over 70 women to support you through the entire month.
