Ok, confession time, I don’t love the term “biohacking”.
Not because I don’t love the concept- it’s essentially optimizing your health with simple practices- but because I find it’s a hard one to explain or to get people excited about.
And biohacking can feel so inaccessible and vague to someone who is new to holistic health and wellbeing that the practices can feel like “one more thing” in the pursuit of health, focus and energy.
First of all, let me start by saying that you don’t start with trying all of the different biohacks in one week! You would get overwhelmed and probably intimidated. I started with adding one thing and really being mindful of how that one hack was making me feel. If I was noticing a positive change in my well-being, I kept it up, if there was no change and it didn’t work with my lifestyle, I gave it up.
SO WTF IS BIOHACKING?
Biohacking is the practice of understanding your own physiology and improving your health through scientifically grounded methods of nutrition, meditation, activities, technologies, and specific techniques that may utilize energy, sound, light, cold, or heat.
Several Examples of Biohacks are:
- intermittent fasting
- cold showers or cold therapy
- sunlight exposure
- grounding or earthing
- tracking your sleep
- blocking blue light
- infrared saunas
- biofeedback devices
SO WHY DO I NEED TO DO EXTRA STUFF JUST TO HAVE ENERGY OR FEEL GREAT?
Because we don’t live off the land in a natural state anymore. Everything is fast and furious so we live with constant stress, our food has been altered, we spend most of our day inside and we are no longer connected to our inner knowing.
This month we will be exploring some simple, free biohacks that are proven to improve your physiology and help you FEEL better. You will need to be an active participant and go through these hacks mindfully and with awareness. That’s how you will gage the results.
