You know why people don’t love salads?
Because they don’t know how to make a killer salad dressing. A bit of a humble (not-so-humble) brag about that fact that I just happen to make the best salad dressings and sauces. I have already blogged about it Here.
Store bought salad dressings and sauces can be loaded with sugars and fats which sabotaged your healthy food that you prepare.
So let me make it real easy for you!
Here are 5 of my favourite, most delicious salad dressings and sauces.
LEMON TAHINI DRESSING. Lemon tahini can be used on just about everything. Macro bowls, salads, roasted veggies, chicken or fish…. I mean, the creamy texture is what sold me. It’s hard to find a creamy, vegan dressing that is healthy.
INGREDIENTS: 3 tbsp lemon juice, 2 tbsp of water, 2 tablespoons tahini, 1 small clove garlic, salt and pepper. Whisk or put into a high speed blender for a few seconds.
VARIATIONS: add 1 tbsp of nutritional yeast to make it thicker, a numb of fresh turmeric and curry for a Indian flavour , a little fresh cilantro and red chilli flakes to make it more mexican, coconut vinegar and dijon mustard to make it more of a salad dressing or try my lemon tahini gravy to smother over roasted veggies->DILL LEMON TAHINI GRAVY.
AVOCADO CREAM SAUCE
Perfect for your tacos, quesadillas or a Mexican inspired salad.
INGREDIENTS: 1 avocado, 1tbsp apple cider, 1 tbsp of lime juice, 1/2 cup of freshly chopped cilantro, 1 tbsp of olive oil and salt and pepper. Blend in your food processor or high speed blender. VARIATIONS: add 1 tbsp of veganaise (or mayo) to make it extra creamy, add red chilly flakes and cumin for a spicer sauce, or add garlic. This sauce goes really well on my Walnut Meat Tacos.
VEGAN CEASER SALAD DRESSING
INGREDIENTS:
1/4 cup tahini
1 large garlic clove, chopped
2 teaspoons Honey Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon dulse powder
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 lime juiced
1/8 -1/4 cup of water depending how thick you like it:)
You can find the dulse flakes at Wholefoods or any “healthier” grocery store:) I think they might even have them at Superstore now… They are crucial to this dressing to give it that salty fishy floor that the anchovies usually supply. I love this on a classic kale caesar or in caesar wraps.
SESAME MISO GINGER DRESSING
Making an asian inspired salad with peanuts and bok choy? Or perhaps a thai noodle salad… This dressing is perfect with a touch of ginger and honey.
INGREDIENTS: 3 tbsp miso paste, 2 tbsp rice vinegar, 1 tbsp honey, 1 tbsp minced fresh ginger root, 1 tbsp sesame oil, 1 tbsp lime juice and a little green onion (optional). Whisk all the ingredients and voila, you have a delicious dressing.
SIMPLE VINAIGRETTE
So easy to prepare and extremely healing. Apple cider is full of enzymes and gut-friendly healthy bacteria. It helps with the digestion of the raw veggies that are in your salad. Ever find it hard on your stomach to eat a ton of cabbage and kale? You are not alone, but that doesn’t mean you should give up:)
INGREDIENTS: 1 tbsp of dijon mustard, 1 tbsp of maple syrup, 3 tbsp of apple cider vinegar, 1/2 cup of quality olive oil or avocado oil, salt and pepper. Whisk everything in a jar and store any leftovers in the fridge for up to a week.
