In today’s post I wanted to share my tips for having a spiritual, healthy camping trip. Different from the ones where booze and grilled hot dogs are the main focus!
I also wanted to share my experience and observations from the camping trip I recently went on up to Elk Bay, on the Discovery Coast 40 km north of Campbell River as it was so powerful to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with Mother Earth.
Being prepared is key to ensuring your camping trip runs smooth but you don’t need to pack for the apocolipse:) You need the camping essentials-tent, sleeping bags, tarp, pillows, camp stove, dishes, water, garbage bag, etc.
OVERNIGHT CAMPING MEAL PLAN
This was our meal plan for our 24 hr camping excursion. We left Denman Island around 10 am so we would arrive around 1 pm at our site. Just in time for lunch:) We had prepared:
- Overnight soaked oats- oats soaked in almond milk with chia, cinnamon, and vanilla).
- Brown Rice – 1 cup of brown rice cooked in 2 cups of organic vegetable broth.
- Giant Protein Smoothie with Pranin Very Berry Smoothie Booster- 1 scoop of protein powder, 1 tbsp of almond butter, coconut water with blackberries, 1 banana, 1 peach and kale.
We stopped at the grocery store and picked up a few ingredients for these meals.
LUNCH: Sandwiches on seedy sourdough bread.
DINNER: Veggie stir fry with brown rice with Kombucha. Dessert was Reishi Tea by Four Sigmatic and chocolate covered almonds. YUM.
BREAKFAST: Overnight soaked oats with mixed nuts and banana. With chaga coffee from Four Sigmatic of course:)
LUNCH ON THE GO: Protein bars, smoothie and peaches.
We packed up our tent and things after a morning of yoga, journalling, and coffee and headed out for a 2 hour hike up Ripple Rock before heading home. We were prepared with our smoothie, some vegan protein bars and water of course:)
We didn’t not bring any alcohol or garbagy treats. I wanted to feel refreshed the next day, not have to recover from a sugar hangover.
OVERNIGHT SPIRITUAL CAMPING
So now that you know what we ate, let me share my tips on how to really connect with your surroundings, nature and yourself. You know, the good stuff:)
First of all, I will be completely honest and say that I was planning on Instagraming the whole trip. But when we got there, we had zero reception (I mean, I should’ve known right?!). Since I couldn’t connect with the digital world, I kept my phone in the car the entire trip. I took al these photos with my Canon camera. I am so glad that I didn’t have service, it forced me to do a 24 hr digital detox which I am so grateful for!
After we arrived, had our lunch and got set up we hunkered down and just sat starring out into the ocean and mountains. We wanted to adjust and settle into a more mindful awareness and give our minds time to relax and our bodies to soften. I think this is key to setting the mood for the rest of your trip. Don’t keep go-go-going at normal city pace! Sit your butt down and chill would ya lol.
Next we went for a slow stroll down the beach until we found the perfect stop to go for a swim. If you have been following me for awhile, you know that Travis and I go skinny dipping on the regular and love how cleansing, energyzing and fun it is to swim nude in cold water. You have to try it if you don’t believe me. The water up in Elk Bay was freezing so it was a quick dip.
To ignite your spiritual side and truly connect with your surroundings and self try:
- Talk to each other!
- Journal
- Sit under the stars
- Wake up and meditate, do yoga, and journal.
- Digest after each meal.
- Enjoy doing nothing at all!
Camping is one of the cheapest, easiest ways to get out of the city, spend time with nature and turn off the devices for a digital detox. You will come home vibing high, recharged and soulful!
